Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland: Spectacular Coastline Fort
Standing guard 150 feet above the spectacular Northumberland coastline, Bamburgh Castle is one of England's finest coastal fortresses.
This iconic fortress stands on a basalt crag 150 feet (46 m) high, such an obvious point of vantage that it was occupied and fortified before the ancient Romans arrived.
