St Pancras Renaissance Hotel: London's Architectural Gem
St Pancras Renaissance Hotel is one of the finest examples of Victorian architecture in London.
This remarkable hotel is more than just a place to rest your head; it's an architectural masterpiece and embodiment of Victorian splendour.
The grand staircase (pictured above) was designed to be wide enough to allow two ladies to pass in their large dresses and was famously used in the Spice Girls’ Wannabe music video.
Its construction began in the 1860s.
George Gilbert Scott, one of Britain's most renowned architects, was commissioned to design a hotel worthy of London's newly expanded St. Pancras railway station.
The result was a stunning example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture, featuring pointed arches, spires, and intricately detailed facades.
The inside is equally resplendent. Gold leaf is used throughout the hotel and the decoration is elaborate, from the wallpaper to the plasterwork.
It had many innovative features, such as hydraulic lifts, concrete floors, revolving doors and fireproof floor constructions.
In 1873, the St. Pancras Hotel opened its doors for the first time to the public.
Its grandeur attracted the elite of the time, including authors, poets, and influential figures who marvelled at its exquisite design and unparalleled service.
Every room had a fireplace meaning there were a whopping 600 fireplaces and 7 miles of flues in the hotel.
A hardworking team of 160 maids therefore had to clean out all the fireplaces twice a day!
Over the years, the St. Pancras Hotel went through various transformations and owners.
However, it wasn't until 2011 that it underwent a meticulous and extensive renovation, restoring it to its former glory.
This impressive renovation project meticulously preserved the historic features and architectural details that had made the hotel an icon while infusing it with modern amenities and a renewed sense of luxury.
The St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel today offers a seamless blend of history and contemporary sophistication.
Guests are greeted with a grand lobby, adorned with a stunning grand staircase, sparkling chandeliers, and ornate details that transport them back to the Victorian era.
The hotel's historic charm is complemented by modern comforts, creating a lovely experience for those of you seeking a unique and luxurious stay.
The hotel features a range of guest rooms and suites, each exuding an air of elegance and comfort.
With options to suit every preference, guests can choose from the well-appointed Chambers, modern Barlow rooms, or the ultimate luxury of the Royal Suites.
These accommodations provide breathtaking views of the city, high-quality furnishings, and plush bedding, making every stay a memorable experience.
The hotel's prime location makes it an ideal base for exploring London.
Situated next to King's Cross Station, guests have easy access to London's major attractions, museums, theatres, and shopping districts.
